Hiiiiyeeee!

I didn't post Friday because I was watching TV with my daughter.  We were watching our favorite show-RuPaul's Drag Race.

An interesting trend right now is that phrases from drag culture (which are also from African American culture-particularly women) are popping up on Twitter and are now mainstream.  In fact, I have heard students saying these phrases up and down the halls and I have to giggle to myself because I doubt many of them know what they are saying.

So here are few favorites and what they mean (just so you know).

YAS! -This word was created as an exclamation to yell at drag queens while they were performing as a sign of support and encouragement.

Spill the T/Tea-Slang for the word truth or gossip.
Used in a sentence: "Girl, I'm about to spill the tea on everything that happened last night."
Gagging- Used when something is so fierce, you can’t help but want to gag from the overload of extreme fierceosity.

Sickening-Amazing, incredible, the best. it refers to when you look at a person and they look so good it makes you sick (but in a good way). Meant completely as an admiration.
Used in a sentence: "Girl, Madonna's new album is sickening!"
Realness-The ability to embody the truest version of something or someone.
Used in a sentence: "She walked in and served Valley girl realness with that blonde hair."
Fierce-If you're not familiar with this one, then, well, you're just not fierce enough.
Used in a sentence: "That is fiiiiiierce!"
Gurl-The “dude” of the gay world.

Henny- the drag communities version of “honey”, used to reference someone else.

Werk-  a declaration of support or approval or ambition

Shade- A concealed double meaning, typically meant to critique. acting in a casual or disrespectful manner towards someone/dissing a friend. One usually “throws” shade, meaning to act shady, fake, or funny around or towards someone else.
Used in a sentence: "She told me I looked 'healthy,' now that's some shade!"

EAT..not food...

I also love Twitter.   One of the teachers that I follow on Twitter is Mr. Victor. Mr. Victor likes to Tweet with the hashtag EAT Jimmy Victor @jimmyvic3 · Oct 9 less than 40 days until tryouts!!! B-ball season is right around the corner, I can’t wait! Get ready for some Jags basketball this winter. Meeting next Tuesday in LGI to discuss workouts and conditioning leading up to tryouts #GoJags #EAT I tried several different Google searches and a call to Liv, before we decided to look up "EAT acronym". We knew from our searches on Twitter that it was related to sports. Effort Attitude Toughness These are things we can all control. As an athlete, and a human, the EAT philosophy leads to success. Half an hour later...

I keep hearing about Tik Tok and how it's the newer, better Vine.  So, I check it out.  Half an hour later, here's what I learned. 1. It is quite entertaining. 2. I am not that creative.  The first person to create an idea is wicked clever.  And I so admire all the peeps who take their own spin on it.  Super fun. And then I did about 15 more minutes of "research" and here's the thing-if I wasn't a grown person, I would spend so much time with this. And so that I don't because I really need to read your blogs, I'll end with Tik Tok is pretty cool.
